Investigating the concept of mythological motifs in Achaemenid era metalwork art

Abstract

Statement of the problem: With the formation of the Achaemenid government, the art of metalworking found a special place in the industry of this period, and this art became integrated. One of the most important things that can be seen in the metal works of the Achaemenid period; They are mythological symbols and elements. The use and application of ritual motifs has always been customary throughout the periods of history and in a way expressed the art, beliefs and beliefs of the people of that period. It seems that some of these symbols are influenced by local and regional culture and a large part of the symbols found are related to the cultures and mythologies of other conquered lands. In this research, an attempt is made to reflect the concept of mythological motifs and its influence on the metalworking art of this period by examining museum works and relying on the historical texts of the Achaemenid period. Mythological motifs in the Achaemenid period include the major part of the art of this period, which appeared in various forms in reliefs, seals and metalwork of this period. The central question of the research is, what are the concepts of Achaemenid era metalworking art? The purpose of this research is to investigate the concept of mythological motifs in Achaemenid metalwork art. The present research method is based on the historical research method which is based on documentary and library study. The results of the research show that the motifs used in the metalwork art of the Achaemenid period often have a ritual and mythological meaning, and their use cannot be considered only as decorative motifs, but often these motifs are rooted in belief, belief and mythology. Ancient Iranian and some Mythology have neighboring regions. Taking this into consideration, it can be seen that the secret of the permanence and continuity of mythological motifs and its wide reflection in the works of metalwork art of the Achaemenid period undoubtedly goes back to the deep role of these myths in the culture and beliefs of the peoples before the Achaemenid period and the neighboring peoples of these lands.
