In different historical periods, establishing communication between human settlements and providing communication routes between different parts of the country have been issues of concern to governments. Due to its geographical location, Qom province plays the role of connecting the two main highways of Iran (Khorasan highway and Fars highway), and in other words, it connects the north-south and east-west routes. Tarlab Caravanserai on the route of the historical road from Qom to present-day Arak is one of the intermediate buildings of the middle Islamic period. This caravanserai has undergone various physical and functional transformations in different historical periods and has been abandoned in its current state in a dilapidated state. The problem of the research is the lack of information about the caravansary of this period, especially the Tarlab caravansary of Qom. No information about this work and its architectural features has been found in historical and scientific texts and documents. In this research, two basic questions are raised about the physical evolution and physical and functional characteristics of Tarlab Caravanserai, and the purpose of this research is to introduce the historical Tarlab Caravanserai as a work of Middle Islamic Caravanserai and to raise awareness for the protection and maintenance of this historical building. In this research, interpretive strategy and interpretive-historical method are used. The findings are collected using document research, interviews and field studies, and the map of Tarlab Caravanserai is completely taken. Then, the architectural features of the work are compared with the caravansary of the same period from the point of view of body and function, and their similarities and differences are analyzed. Investigations show that considering the role of the studied caravansary and their location on historical routes, their function was similar and serving caravans and caravans, but in terms of physical characteristics, Tarlab, Koh Namak and Rabat Sanghi Ahavan have the most similarities. The presence of a portico around the yard and the use of stone materials are among the features that can be seen in the caravanserais investigated in the research.
