Balochi embroidery, a significant component of the Baloch people's traditional arts, was historically practiced using two main techniques: "thread-counting" on uniformly woven fabrics and "Tarakash" on non-structured textiles. In recent years, the introduction of digital technologies and design software has significantly transformed this art, leading to the mass production of machine-generated patterns and the use of digital embroidery machines. Despite the growing application of technology, there remains a critical gap in theoretical research exploring the intersection between tradition and digitalization in this field. Objective: The present study aims to determine the nature and extent of digital technology’s impact on: the design of new composite patterns, designer creativity, the Balochi embroidery market, and pattern diversity. Materials and Methods: This qualitative study employed Grounded Theory methodology, following the Strauss and Corbin approach, with the objective of explicating participants' experiences regarding the impact of digital technology on Balochi embroidery. Grounded Theory was selected due to its flexible nature and capacity for discovering new categories, facilitating a deep understanding of the experiences of practitioners in this field. The study population comprised all active participants in the Balochi embroidery domain across four cities: Saravan, Iranshahr, Chabahar, and Zahedan. Using purposeful sampling, 60 participants were selected from four main groups: 15 professional hand-embroiderers with over 15 years of experience, 15 digital embroidery machine operators, 15 digital pattern designers (each group with 5+ years of experience), and 15 end consumers. Consumers were selected randomly, while the other groups were chosen based on criteria including experience, expertise, and direct involvement with both traditional hand-embroidery and digital techniques. Results: The findings indicate that while digitalization has enhanced production speed and pattern diversity, it has simultaneously posed challenges to the preservation of traditional and cultural authenticity. The study identifies key elements such as the causal drivers (including the introduction of digital tools, training needs, and increased collaboration), contextual factors (market changes, consumer behavior, economic pressure, and emotional/artistic concerns), and intervening conditions (technical and financial limitations, stakeholder attitudes, and implementation issues). The central phenomenon emerging from this analysis is the dynamic interaction between traditional practices and digital processes. Strategies to address this include master-apprentice training, collaborative engagement, and hybrid approaches that merge tradition with innovation. Ultimately, the consequences involve preserving cultural identity through digital means, fostering creativity, and reshaping market dynamics and consumer expectations. Conclusion: The results showed that the introduction of digital technology and design software into traditional handicraft domains, including Balochi embroidery, has engendered multifaceted changes in the design and production processes of this traditional art. TAlthough digital technology has created opportunities in terms of speed, quality, and innovation, it has simultaneously raised significant concerns regarding the preservation of authenticity and traditional skills in Balochi embroidery. The present analysis models the process of change through a Grounded Theory-based paradigm model, structured around causal conditions, the core phenomenon, contextual factors, intervening conditions, strategies, and consequences.
