Coins, due to their date and place of minting and the name of the king, not only provide accurate historical information, but also represent the writing form of their period and They are known as an important source for studying the common forms in each period. By each age of Iranian history, several coins are left from kings and sultans, which their study reveals various aspects of the political and cultural history of this land. Some Coins are existed from the Buyid dynasty age, especially from the Adud al-Dawla kingdom period. We are also aware of the fact that due to the scarcity of historical and authentic works of art from this period, it is very difficult to comment on the characteristics of calligraphy. Hence, the coins left from this age can be a reliable source for evaluating the specific styles and methods of writing in this era.Therefore, in this research, lots of attempts have been made to study and classify the form of letters in the coins’ inscriptions of this part of history via minted coins during Adud al-Dawla Deylami kingdom, who was one of the most important kings of the Buyid dynasty, and has ruled over parts of Iraq, Khuzestan, Fars, and Kerman.In Order to head to this aim, this study seeks to answer the following questions; What letters have the most change and variety of writing form in the coins’ inscriptions of the alphabet during Adud al-Dawla period? Which structural features have affected the classification of the inscriptions? Image database and resources in this article and all Adud al-Dawla’s period coins were collected from the reputable websites of museums and collections and books introducing coins. Research method is analytical and descriptive. According to the result, it can be said that generally, the study of letters in the inscriptions of the studied coins introduced the written form of the first group as the dominant written form of the inscriptions of Adud al-Dawla period. letters «ـحـ»، «ـع»، «ع» had the most flexibility in the variety of forms and were characteristic of the general state of the line, the thickness and thinness of the line and decorative elements in creating style.
