The need for shelter is fundamental to human survival, ranking alongside food and clothing in Maslow’s hierarchy. The loss of homes due to natural disasters like floods and earthquakes is a significant tragedy for survivors. In Iran, earthquakes pose a critical challenge in urban planning and crisis management, as they result in numerous fatalities and displaced individuals each year. Effective planning for post-disaster scenarios includes establishing assistance centers and providing accommodation housing for those affected. During the transitional period-—between the disaster occurrence and movingthe move to permanent housing-—important questions arise regarding the duration of this period and the essential qualities of temporary housing projects. Currently, there is no definitive answer to these questions, leaving decision-makers, planners, and designers grappling with how durable temporary housing units should be. While the temporary nature of these units often leads to minimal investment in time, energy, and resources, this can compromise their effectiveness. The distinction between temporary housing and emergency shelters is crucial; the former must not only provide shelter but also facilitate the resumption of regular activities for survivors, aiding in their psychological recovery. This necessity gives temporary housing a more permanent character, aligning it closer to traditional housing solutions. This research employs a descriptive-analytical approach, primarily utilizing qualitative methods, and its practical in nature. It aims to identify the most effective strategies to address the dual demands of temporary housing and psychological support. The study also suggests solutions based on past experiences, advocating for the use of technology and modern materials in designing future temporary shelters.
